MnDOT Statewide Pedestrian System Plan

Minnesota Walks

Guiding MnDOT investments to improve places for people walking.

What is it? Why is it being done?

Walking is a key part how people move around, whether walking the dog, to school, to the bus, or through the parking lot. MnDOT’s Statewide Pedestrian System Plan will help to create places that are safe and convenient for people to walk along and across state highways. The Plan will ask people in Minnesota what they expect of the places that they walk, and what could help them to walk more often.

What progress has been made?

The plan kicked off in February 2019 and is expected to be finished in early 2021. The first round of public engagement will occur in the summer of 2019. A draft of the plan will likely be complete in spring 2020.
