Autonomous Shuttle Bus Pilot Project

Multimodal Plan

Studying and working with transportation partners to prepare for connected and autonomous vehicles.

In the Statewide Multimodal Transportation Plan, MnDOT committed to studying and working with partners to prepare for connected and autonomous vehicles. To help do that, MnDOT and partners are currently testing an autonomous shuttle bus as part of a pilot project. The pilot will continue through at least April 2018.

Autonomous vehicle technology is rapidly developing around the world. Minnesota offers unique winter climate challenges that are different from other locations currently testing these technologies. The goal of the pilot project is to better position the state to influence national policy and prepare Minnesota transportation owners and stakeholders for the future.
