Increasing the transparency of how we select highway construction projects

MnDOT has released a new website that increases transparency in the project selection process. In 2017, the Legislature directed MnDOT to implement an objective project selection policy for construction projects on the state highway system. The new project selection policy was adopted in November 2018 and first implemented with the 2020-2029 Capital Highway Investment Plan and 2020-2023 State Transportation Improvement Program.

The new website describes all of the categories and programs used to prioritize candidate construction projects, including the criteria to score projects and the lists of candidate projects.
